MasterChef: Global Gauntlet Season 16 delivered one of its most brutal episodes yet with “Tag Team,” as the competition narrowed from the Top 10 to the Top 8. For Team Asia-Pacific, however, the episode was nothing short of a nightmare. After Gordon Ramsay unleashed some of his harshest criticism of the season, Aishu Challa and Jaime Tan were eliminated, leaving Foo Nguyen as the team’s only remaining contestant.

The biggest disaster came when Aishu and Jaime presented their Shepherd’s Pie, a dish that immediately raised red flags with the judges. Gordon Ramsay took one look at the plate and delivered a devastating comparison, telling the pair:

“It’s like a giant zit.”

The brutal comment instantly became one of the most memorable moments of the episode.

And Gordon was far from finished. The judges found multiple problems with the dish, turning what was supposed to be a comforting classic into a major liability for the two contestants.

Tiffany Derry pointed out several technical and flavor issues, including a lack of herbs and problems with the overall texture. The dish also suffered from clumpy rice, while the fish component was reportedly still raw in the center, creating an especially serious execution problem.

For a competition at this stage, those mistakes were almost impossible to overcome.

Joe Bastianich offered a somewhat more balanced assessment, noting that the Veal Milanese component showed some promising technical elements. However, those positives were simply not enough to compensate for the weaknesses across the rest of the plate.

The result was devastating for Aishu and Jaime.

Their Shepherd’s Pie represented a dramatic fall from the level expected of contestants who had survived all the way to the Top 10. Instead of producing a polished dish worthy of the next stage, they found themselves at the center of one of the episode’s harshest judging sessions.

For Team Asia-Pacific, the consequences were even more painful.

At the beginning of the competition, the team had three contestants remaining. After Aishu and Jaime were sent home, Foo Nguyen became the sole surviving member of Asia-Pacific.

That leaves Foo carrying the entire weight of the territory heading into the Top 8.

The double elimination also dramatically changes the balance of power in the competition. With fewer contestants remaining, every mistake becomes more costly, and Foo can no longer rely on fellow Asia-Pacific teammates to share the pressure.

Meanwhile, the other territories now have a major numerical advantage.

For Foo, the message is clear: there is no room for another Shepherd’s Pie disaster.

After watching his teammates fall in the same brutal episode, Foo now has to fight alone—and if he wants Asia-Pacific to survive in the Global Gauntlet, he will need to prove that he can withstand the pressure without letting his team’s devastating collapse become his own downfall.
