For nearly 15 years, Ayesha Nurdjaja carried a promise she never thought she would break.

The acclaimed New York chef, now one of Food Network’s beloved Titans on Bobby’s Triple Threat, once swore she would never compete in a cooking competition again after suffering one of the most painful moments of her culinary career. Today, however, the very chef who walked away from competition television is not only one of the stars of Bobby Flay’s hit series but is also openly excited about its future—giving fans fresh hope that Bobby’s Triple Threat could eventually return for a fifth season.
As of July 16, 2026, Food Network has not officially renewed Bobby’s Triple Threat for Season 5. No premiere date has been announced, and the network has yet to confirm whether another season is in production.
Still, recent comments from both Bobby Flay and Ayesha Nurdjaja have fueled speculation that the culinary competition may not be finished just yet.

Ironically, few people could have imagined that Ayesha would ever become one of Food Network’s fiercest competitors.
Speaking with PEOPLE during the 2026 Food & Wine Classic in Aspen, the executive chef and partner behind New York City’s acclaimed restaurants Shuka and Shukette reflected on the experience that almost ended her relationship with cooking competitions forever.
Her story dates back to 2009, when she competed on the second season of Chopped.
Instead of launching a successful television career, the competition became one of the biggest disappointments of her professional life.
“I got chopped in the first round, and I couldn’t believe it,” she recalled.
The defeat hit her much harder than viewers realized.
“I cried hysterically,” she admitted, joking that she had already mentally spent the $10,000 prize she believed she was going to win before being eliminated.
“I swore I’d never do another cooking competition again.”
For more than a decade, she kept that promise.
Unlike many celebrity chefs who regularly appeared on competitive cooking shows, Nurdjaja focused almost entirely on running successful restaurants. In her mind, restaurant cooking and competition cooking required completely different skill sets.
Cooking under extreme time pressure, improvising unfamiliar ingredients, and producing restaurant-quality food in only 45 minutes, she explained, was “a completely different discipline.”
Then Bobby Flay came calling.
Around fifteen years after her heartbreaking Chopped elimination, Flay approached Nurdjaja with an unexpected proposal.
He wanted her to replace Tiffany Derry as one of the three Titans on Bobby’s Triple Threat, joining Brooke Williamson and Michael Voltaggio in defending the Triple Threat kitchen against elite challengers.
Her first reaction was immediate.
“No way.”
She believed countless other chefs were better suited for the role.
“There are so many talented chefs out there who compete,” she remembered thinking.
Fortunately for fans, Bobby Flay refused to accept no as the final answer.
Earlier in 2025, Flay revealed exactly how he convinced her.
According to him, everything changed during a casual morning coffee meeting.
“I finally convinced her over coffee,” Flay recalled.
“I told her, ‘You’ve already done 90 percent of the work. I’ll help you with the last 10 percent. I’ll help you feel comfortable, and then you’ll shine.'”
That conversation ultimately changed the course of her television career.
Nurdjaja agreed—but under one important condition.

She wanted Bobby Flay himself to coach her before filming began.
“I said, ‘I’ll do the show if you train me.'”
Flay happily accepted.
The two spent several days cooking together, with Bobby focusing less on complicated techniques and more on confidence.
“He just kept saying, ‘Just cook. Just cook.'”
Sometimes that advice worked perfectly.
“There were moments when I’d look at two ingredients and instantly know exactly what I wanted to make.”
Other times, she laughed, complete panic would set in.
“I’d look at kale and mushrooms and think, ‘I’ve never seen kale and mushrooms before in my life.'”
The preparation clearly paid off.
Following production, Bobby Flay praised his newest Titan, saying many challengers underestimated her—and that became one of her greatest advantages.
“Her food was incredible,” Flay said.
“The competing chefs underestimated her, and that was the best part because she absolutely showed them what she could do.”
For Nurdjaja, however, the biggest lesson wasn’t about winning competitions.
It was about Bobby Flay himself.
She described him not simply as a celebrity chef but as someone completely consumed by his passion for food.
“Bobby is a cook,” she explained.

“I know that sounds simple, but that’s exactly the kind of people I’ve always wanted to work with.”
According to Nurdjaja, Flay thinks about food constantly.
“He goes to bed thinking about food. He wakes up thinking about food. After decades in this business, he’s still pushing himself to grow.”
She also praised his work ethic, calling it unmatched.
“He’s demanding, but he’s also incredibly understanding.”
That mentorship transformed what had once been her greatest professional fear into one of the most rewarding experiences of her career.
Even so, she admits competing has permanently changed her.
“I’m not an anxious person,” she joked.
“Well… I wasn’t until Triple Threat.”
She described every filming day as a whirlwind of uncertainty, never knowing when she would be called into the kitchen or what ingredients would be waiting for her.
“You spend the entire day nervous.”
Despite all that pressure, she wouldn’t trade the experience.
Looking ahead, Nurdjaja revealed that she is very excited about the future of Bobby’s Triple Threat, teased an upcoming holiday special, and expressed hope that viewers will continue seeing her across more Food Network projects.
Those comments have naturally reignited speculation about Season 5.
Although Food Network has not officially announced another season, hearing one of the show’s Titans enthusiastically discuss future opportunities has given many fans renewed optimism.
Combined with Bobby Flay’s ongoing partnership with Food Network and his continued enthusiasm for the franchise, Nurdjaja’s remarks suggest that the Triple Threat kitchen may not have served its final dish.
For the chef who once vowed never to enter another cooking competition, that may be the biggest surprise of all.
