TAKEN DOWN Moment off-duty policewoman wearing sandals and jeans tackles shoplifter with a knife to the ground

THIS is the moment an off-duty policewoman tackles a shoplifter with a knife while wearing sandals and jeans.

Video footage from outside a petrol station in Kent shows PC Alice O’Brien apprehending Nicholas Noble who had nicked an ice cream bar, ice lollies, and bacon.

While tackling the shoplifter in her off-duty attire, a member of the public removed a knife from Noble’s waistband.

Noble, 45, pleaded guilty to shoplifting and possession of an offensive weapon in court on June 16.

CCTV footage shows Noble inside a petrol station in Gillingham on June 8 putting store items into a carrier bag.

While trying to leave the store without paying, a staff member tries to confront Noble with the two fighting over the bag of nicked goods.

PC O’Brien was filling her car up with petrol when she noticed the altercation and stepped in.

Despite wearing jeans and sandals, the copper is seen holding the thief against a fence and holding him onto the ground.

With a phone held up to her face, PC O’Brien called an on-duty colleague to arrest Noble.

PC O’Brien said: “I did what any of my colleagues would do, which is help members of the public who are in potential danger.

“When I saw them get violent, I knew I had to step in.

“The staff member and member of public who assisted were absolute superstars, and I’m so lucky one of them spotted and removed the knife otherwise the incident could have had far more serious consequences.”

He was arrested for shoplifting and possession of an offensive weapon.

Noble plead guilty to all charges at Medway Magistrates’ Court, including resisting an officer in their duty.

He was handed a six month prison sentence with an additional six for a separate case.

PC O’Brien added: “Learning afterwards that he had a previous conviction made me even more glad that I got involved and we managed to hold him there until he could be formally arrested.

“The Medway community and its businesses are safer now that Noble is behind bars.”
