Caroline Flack’s brother Paul has died aged 55, six years after the TV presenter’s death, with an inquest hearing his provisional cause of death was cardiac arrest due to hanging
Caroline Flack’s brother has been found hanged six years since his famous sister did the same thing. Her brother Paul was just 55-years-old when he was found unresponsive at his home in Norwich.
He was found nine days ago on June 21. Paul died at Norfolk and Norwich Hospital, despite attempts from medical professionals to save his life. The late TV star’s brother Paul, was an artist and graphic designer, who leaves behind his partner and two children.
His provisional post-mortem has claimed the cause of his death was due to cardiac arrest due to hanging. On Monday (June 30), an inquest into his death was opened at Norfolk Coroner’s Court. The coroner looking after the investigation, Yvonne Blake, said further enquiries would be required before the circumstances surrounding his death can be fully established.
His final Instagram post remains a tribute to his sister, who passed away in 2020. Alongside a sweet picture of them together, he penned: “This will be my last post here. May those who know feel shame for eternity. Love you Caroline.”
The news comes six years after the loss of his younger sister who was just 40 when she died.
Caroline was one of Britain’s best-known television presenters, after hosting shows such as The Xtra Factor and Love Island.
Her devastating death in February 2020 spurred on a national conversation about mental health and the treatment of those in the public eye.
Following Caroline’s death, her family became outspoken about the impact the loss had on them and repeatedly called for greater compassion towards those facing mental health struggles and intense public scrutiny.
Paul was among those who paid tribute to his younger sister on social media, sharing photographs and heartfelt messages remembering the former TV presenter. In recent years, he had spoken about how deeply her death had affected the family.
Paul Flack appeared alongside his mother, Christine, and sister, Elizabeth, in the 2021 documentary Caroline Flack: Her Life and Death, which explored the presenter’s life and the impact of her death on those closest to her.
During the programme, Paul revealed that Caroline was the first thing the family thought about every morning as they gathered at her memorial bench on a rainy day.
“I just hope I can achieve something. And as long as you lot all don’t mind me doing it, I will go ahead,” their mother Christine said.
At the time of her death, Caroline was in a relationship with former semi-professional tennis player Lewis Burton. She had been charged with assault following an argument at her north London home.
Caroline admitted hitting Lewis with a mobile phone after seeing a message that led her to believe he had been unfaithful.
When Lewis said he was going to call the police, Caroline became distressed and injured herself before officers from the Metropolitan Police arrived at the property.
Although Lewis sustained a head injury, it did not require medical treatment. Caroline was taken to hospital, where she received treatment for around 12 hours.
In the weeks that followed, she was charged over the incident. After learning that the prosecution would continue despite Lewis not supporting the case, Caroline died by suicide in February 2020.
