KIT-ASTROPHE ‘We love our dresses’ – Netball team brush off concerns their kits are too short after claims they are ‘inappropriate’
AUSTRALIA netball star Sophie Garbin has hit back at claims her side’s kit is inappropriate.
The Diamonds are desperate to defend their Commonwealth Games crown and cruised to a stunning 66-47 win over England on Sunday.
Garbin, 29, was the star of the show as she scored a whopping 41 goals from 42 attempts.
But Australia have come under fire after members of the squad have come dangerously close to suffered an embarrassing wardrobe malfunction during the early stages of the tournament.
They were spotted pulling down their short dresses in a desperate bid to protect their modesty during the win over England.
Garbin insists she and her team-mates have no issues with their Commonwealth Games strip.
The sharpshooter said: “I feel like, as a netballer, I’m always tugging my dress down.
“Obviously we’ve noticed lots of the comments from other people, but on the court we’re used to dresses coming up and down.
“I don’t think it’s affecting our performance, so it’s OK. I feel like we might have a look at what we can do in the next couple of days, but we love our dress.
“We love what Valour have done with the pattern and the fabric and everything, so we’re really proud to wear it.”
Commonwealth Games fans have been rushing onto social media to slam Australia’s kit.
One said: “The cut of these Australian dresses is terrible. They keep riding up as soon as the players move.”
Another added: “Any athlete deserves to be wearing appropriate and comfortable clothing. This clearly isn’t the case.”
A third chimed in: “I can’t imagine it’s easy to focus on playing a game when you know you have your lower half on display every time you take a step.”
A fourth noted: “The fit of the dresses are horrid. Did they pass out tank tops and the dresses are on back order?”
And a fifth claimed: “I can’t imagine how annoying this is for them to be pulling their dress down every time. Let’s just call time on the dress?”
