Michael Barrymore has undergone “painful” surgery. The former television legend, 73, told fans that he was recovering at his beachside home following the operation.

Michael, who recently moved to Devon after shelving his plans to relocate to Spain, said he was “resting up” and couldn’t do much due to a painful recovery, but managed to take an easy walk with his beloved dog, Lara, at Blackpool Sands, near Dartmouth.

However, due to the pain Michael is experiencing, he said he and Lara couldn’t walk too far before they returned to his Bungalow so he could rest and take a nap.

My house is slowly starting to take shape now.” He also admitted he “couldn’t be bothered to cook” and instead opted for a microwaved Thai green curry ready meal, rounded off with rhubarb pie and custard.

Days earlier, upon coming round from his operation, the former Strike It Lucky host joked: “Okay the surgery was a success, but what if I’m not funny anymore?”

Michael collected the keys to his new home earlier this month and was left emotional after the locals welcomed him with open arms. He’s taken trips to local beaches, visited Cranch’s Sweet Shop in Salcombe and popped into several local garden centres.

He told fans online: “I can’t believe I’ve been in my new home for nearly a week already and this move has been quite stressful, so I’ve cut down to one job a day so I’m not overwhelmed by it all.” Barrymore subsequently moved to his bedroom, showing how he had been sleeping on a mattress placed directly on the floor while he waited for his bed to be delivered in June.

He said: “All the kids in the neighbourhood found out where I live and they all showed up on my driveway to say hi and greet me to the neighbourhood.” Barrymore became emotional following their departure, reflecting: “I’ve never had such an outpouring of love after moving into a new place and these kids today are so polite and smile.”

The television personality turned social media star was subsequently invited to participate in a community theatre group at their local school. He said: “Because I’ve said yes to everything since moving here, I turned up. I took part for a bit and gave them some good advice.”
