Cat Deeley and her husband Patrick Kielty once imagined their return to North London as the beginning of a beautiful new chapter. After more than ten years building their lives in Los Angeles, the couple hoped that their £5 million renovation project in Hampstead would become the perfect family home where they could raise their two sons and create lasting memories together. Instead, the ambitious property transformation became a source of overwhelming stress, and the unfinished dream house is now being placed back on the market as part of the separation process, leaving the former couple facing a significant financial loss.

The couple’s decision to move back to the UK was deeply influenced by family concerns. During their years in Los Angeles, Cat had enjoyed major success as the presenter of the hit American dance competition show So You Think You Can Dance, becoming one of the most recognisable British faces on US television. However, a frightening incident involving Patrick and their eldest son Milo changed how they viewed their future in America.

At the time, Patrick and four-year-old Milo were caught up in an emergency lockdown at a Los Angeles shopping centre during a serious shooting scare. Cat later described receiving a terrifying phone call from Patrick, who explained that they were being evacuated through fire exits while people were unable to return to their cars. She was asked whether she could meet them somewhere nearby because the situation had become too dangerous.

The house, located near the famous Hampstead Heath, was intended to become a “forever home” and a major passion project. The couple had ambitious plans to completely transform the property into a luxurious family residence with a relaxed Californian influence.

Their renovation plans included major structural changes, such as a large open-plan living area with double-height ceilings, expanded bedrooms, outdoor terraces, a nanny suite, a children’s playroom, private dressing rooms, a home bar, and a dedicated office space. They also wanted to redesign parts of the roof to bring more natural light into the home and create a grander entrance area.

The project appeared to represent everything they had hoped for after returning from America. Cat even shared updates from the renovation process on social media, posting images of the partly demolished interior and joking about the transformation. Patrick also spoke about the challenges of the renovation during his radio appearances, often laughing about the enormous task they had taken on.

However, behind the jokes, the reality was becoming increasingly difficult. Friends close to the couple claim that the renovation placed a huge strain on their relationship, particularly because Patrick spent much of the working week in Ireland hosting RTE’s The Late Late Show while Cat was managing much of the building project in London.

The couple had already experienced periods of separation during their transition back to Britain. When they first left Los Angeles, Cat continued commuting between the UK and America for a year while completing her commitments on So You Think You Can Dance. Sources suggested that the distance was challenging for Patrick, who was caring for their two children in London while Cat worked overseas.

Although their permanent move to the UK was supposed to mark a fresh beginning, Cat and Patrick shocked the public when they announced their separation. The couple confirmed that they had decided to end their marriage and insisted there was no third person involved. They said they remained committed to being loving parents and requested privacy for their family.

The house is now described as a spacious five-bedroom property of approximately 4,418 square feet, offering privacy and peaceful surroundings close to central London. However, despite its potential, it remains unfinished, with signs of abandoned construction including building materials, cables, and unused equipment around the site.

The collapse of the dream home has coincided with challenges in Cat’s professional life as well. After stepping into Holly Willoughby’s role as co-host of This Morning alongside Ben Shephard in 2024, Cat was expected to bring Hollywood experience and fresh energy to the programme. She was reportedly earning around £600,000 per year for the role.

However, some viewers have criticised her presenting style, claiming she appears too Americanised and lacks chemistry with Ben. Ratings for the programme have also reportedly fallen significantly compared with previous years, when Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield attracted millions of viewers.

Industry insiders have suggested that ITV executives hoped Cat would become a major success story for the show, but the results have not matched expectations. Some sources have even questioned how long her position on This Morning will continue.
