There were, of course, some chefs who were overly confident in their abilities. Brandon, a trained pastry chef, seemed stunned when his dessert didn’t impress the judges or the guests. On the other hand, Justin found himself in trouble after attempting to reinterpret Ambrosia in a completely literal way, using dry ice to keep everything cold. Unfortunately, his dish was deemed muddled and one-dimensional by the judges.

Others like Oscar, who attempted an overly ambitious bread pudding, found themselves on the bottom for similar reasons. Duyen, meanwhile, chose to make a caramel cake but ended up creating a confusing version by combining caramel foam (which didn’t taste like caramel at all) with green-colored pandan rice, resulting in a dessert that was almost unrecognizable. The biggest twist of the night, however, wasn’t the elimination of Justin. Instead, it was the medical emergency that sent his wife, Jennifer, to the hospital. In an emotional scene, Kristen had to break the news that Jennifer could no longer continue in the competition but could return in a future season. For me, I leaned towards the idea that Sieger had been brought back, mainly because it seemed that he hadn’t yet competed in Last Chance Kitchen. Also, Tom Colicchio had hinted that some time had passed since Justin’s departure, suggesting that filming for Restaurant Wars had already started. This made it seem more likely that someone who hadn’t been eliminated so recently — such as Sieger — had been brought back. That said, I also found myself rooting for Rhoda. She had shown great promise at the beginning of the season but had stumbled in a couple of challenges. It would be interesting to see her redemption arc play out, especially if she was able to join the competition in time for one of its most iconic challenges.
