For years, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been viewed as one of the most financially successful couples to leave the Royal Family. After stepping away from royal duties, they secured major commercial deals, built a global brand, and created an image of independence and financial freedom.
However, according to a report from the Daily Mail, questions are now being raised about whether the Sussexes’ financial situation is as strong as many people assume. Behind the public image of luxury and success, some insiders suggest that their income streams may have become more limited, while maintaining their lifestyle continues to require significant resources.
The biggest symbol of this financial uncertainty is their ongoing search for a “forever home” in Britain. While the move back toward the UK has been presented as a family decision, some observers believe it also highlights the challenges of maintaining their current lifestyle without the same level of financial support and major contracts they once enjoyed.
One of the biggest sources of attention has been their Netflix partnership. When Harry and Meghan signed their deal with Netflix, many reports portrayed it as a huge financial victory. The partnership helped establish them as independent figures outside the monarchy, especially after the release of the successful documentary series Harry & Meghan in 2022.

However, a source familiar with the agreement told the Daily Mail that the reality may be different from public assumptions.
The source suggested that Harry and Meghan may have personally kept around $10–15 million, or slightly more, over nearly five years from the deal.
The source explained:
“It looks like they’ve probably managed to maybe keep $10-15million or a touch more purely for themselves over the nearly five years – not bad business, but that kind of money doesn’t last long with their lifestyle.”
According to the report, Netflix spent around $20 million producing the Harry & Meghan documentary, which became the strongest success of their partnership. The company also released Meghan’s lifestyle series With Love, Meghan, but that project reportedly did not achieve the same level of impact.

The original Netflix arrangement has now changed. Instead of a major production deal, it has reportedly become a “first look” agreement, meaning Netflix will not automatically fund development costs for future Sussex projects.
This change is significant because it shifts more financial responsibility onto Harry and Meghan themselves.
Their other major partnership, Spotify, has already ended. Meghan currently has a smaller agreement with podcast company Lemonada Media, which resulted in one season of Confessions Of A Female Founder in 2025.
Meanwhile, their production company, Archewell Productions, has several projects in development, but insiders suggest that having projects announced does not necessarily mean immediate income.
Before any profit can be made, productions require significant spending on employees, development, and production costs.
Harry’s personal income sources also appear more limited than some might expect.
The Duke of Sussex has two part-time roles: one with BetterUp, a business coaching company, and another connected to Travalyst, his sustainability-focused travel organization.
While Travalyst reportedly does not pay him, Harry’s BetterUp salary has never been officially revealed, although reports suggest it could be around $1 million per year.
Meghan’s business ambitions have also faced challenges.
Her lifestyle brand, As Ever, was expected to become a major part of her independent identity. However, the article suggests that the company has struggled to reach the level of success initially expected.
Her Netflix series With Love, Meghan reportedly failed to become a major hit, and Netflix was said to have rejected another project called Cookie Queens.
There have also been questions surrounding As Ever’s products, including its fruit spreads, wines, and other lifestyle items. The report claims there are signs of significant unsold inventory, particularly with the company’s jam products, which could eventually lead to losses of around $5 million or more.

Despite these concerns, Meghan’s team maintains that the brand is performing well for a start-up.
Meghan herself explained that she decided to focus more on business rather than television, saying:
“I love that there’s so much excitement and desire for another season, but I need to focus on my business.”
She also joked:
“At a certain point, the only thing I want spread thin is my jam.”
The larger issue surrounding Harry and Meghan is not whether they are financially struggling today, but whether their current business model can continue supporting the lifestyle and public image they have created.
Their royal connection helped generate enormous global attention, but attention does not always translate into long-term financial stability. Major deals can end, audiences can lose interest, and businesses require consistent success to survive.
The Sussexes built their future around independence from the monarchy. Now, the challenge is proving that their brand can stand on its own without relying on the royal story that originally made them one of the world’s most watched couples.
