Six years ago, the answer seemed clear.

Harry and Meghan Markle were stepping away from royal duty, preparing to build a different life outside the structure of the monarchy, and ultimately moving to California.

But now they are back in Britain with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, and the children are reportedly enrolled in a British school.

That makes the contrast with the events of January 2020 particularly striking.
