For Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, returning to the United Kingdom represents a major change after six years of building a new life in America.

But while much of the attention has focused on the couple’s relationship with the Royal Family, another important figure in their lives is making a very different decision.

According to a report from HELLO!, Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland, will not be joining the Sussex family in their move back to the UK.

For years, Doria has been one of the most consistent sources of support for Harry and Meghan. After the couple left royal duties in 2020 and moved to Montecito, California, she became a familiar and important presence in their family life.

She has been especially close to her grandchildren, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, often described as a hands-on grandmother who has played an active role in their childhood.

However, despite Archie and Lilibet crossing the Atlantic, Doria is expected to remain in California.

A friend of the couple explained:

“Doria is a big part of the kids’ lives but she has her own life in California. She will of course continue to see the family frequently.”

The decision highlights an interesting reality about Harry and Meghan’s return: not every part of their American life is moving with them.

Doria has her own career as a social worker and has maintained her own identity outside the spotlight surrounding her daughter.

During their years in California, Meghan has shared moments showing the close bond between Doria and her grandchildren, including a video of Doria and Lilibet spending time together in a swimming pool.

Now, that relationship will continue across two continents rather than through daily proximity.

The Sussexes’ return to the UK was officially confirmed after six years away from Britain.

The move is expected to give Harry more opportunities to spend time with King Charles and allow Archie and Lilibet to build stronger connections with their father’s homeland.

King Charles was reportedly informed about the plans and is said to be pleased about having more opportunities to see his son and grandchildren.

However, the return does not mean Harry and Meghan are returning to their former royal roles.

Their status within the Royal Family remains unchanged following their decision to step away as working royals in 2020.

One of the biggest questions surrounding the move is whether it could lead to reconciliation with other members of the family.

Many royal observers have hoped that Harry’s return could eventually repair his relationship with Prince William.

However, according to HELLO!’s royal editor Emily Nash, any reconciliation between the brothers is unlikely to happen quickly.

Speaking on the A Right Royal Podcast, Nash said:

“I think this is going to be very much one step at a time.”

She suggested that Harry and Meghan’s immediate focus will likely be settling their children and rebuilding their connection with the King.

Nash emphasized:

“Crucial to them is the relationship with the King. You can’t go any higher than him.”

At the same time, the divide between Harry and William remains significant.

According to reports, the brothers have been distant since Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in 2022, and there has been little indication that their relationship has improved.

Nash acknowledged that there are understandable reasons why William and Kate Middleton may struggle to move forward.

She pointed to the impact of Harry and Meghan’s departure from royal duties and the public revelations that followed.

She noted that William may feel deeply hurt by what happened, describing the situation as one where rebuilding trust would require significant time.

The challenge is not simply about family disagreements — it is about events that played out publicly around the world.

For Harry, returning to Britain may provide a chance to reconnect with his father and allow his children to experience a part of their heritage they have mostly known from a distance.

But it does not erase the conflicts that remain.

The decision by Doria Ragland to stay in California also reflects the complicated nature of this transition. Harry and Meghan are not completely leaving their American life behind; instead, they are creating a new balance between two worlds.
