HARRY HAS THE IDEA, DIANA, AND A STUDIO — BUT HE MAY BE MISSING THE MOST IMPORTANT THING. The new project is reportedly set to explore both the “light” and the “dark” sides of Princess Diana’s story. That is exactly the kind of material a streaming platform might find more appealing than a documentary filled only with praise. Harry is said to have already begun sounding out journalists and people who knew his mother. But their reaction could leave the project stuck before the cameras even start rolling.

Prince Harry may want to mark the 30th anniversary of Princess Diana’s death with a new documentary, but the project could already be running into a problem that money, access and royal name recognition cannot easily solve.

According to claims made by Neil Sean on his YouTube channel, Harry is trying to develop a documentary that would offer another version of Diana’s story.

The ambition itself is not especially surprising.

Next year will mark three decades since Diana’s death, and Sean says Harry does not want the anniversary to pass without making his own contribution to how his mother is remembered.

But the more interesting part is the kind of film Harry is reportedly trying to make.

Sean claims Harry does not simply want a polished tribute filled with affectionate memories.

Instead, he allegedly wants “light and shade.”

That means bringing in people who admired Diana, but also those who criticized her, challenged her, or reported on more complicated parts of her life.

According to Sean, Harry wants to ask some of those people why certain reports were written, what the background was and how they saw Diana at the time.

In theory, that could make the documentary more interesting.

A film that only presents Diana as a flawless figure may struggle to offer anything genuinely new after decades of books, interviews, documentaries and public discussion.

Sean’s argument is that a streaming platform would be more likely to take interest in a project that includes tension, disagreement and different perspectives.

That may explain why Harry is allegedly trying to reach out to journalists and others who were close to Diana’s story.

But that strategy creates the project’s biggest obstacle.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Have Been Discussing Her Return to Acting for Some Time

Sean claims many of the people Harry wants to interview are not particularly eager to participate.

That makes sense from a practical point of view.

If someone has valuable memories, private knowledge or a distinctive version of events, why would they necessarily give that material to Harry’s documentary?

They could save it for their own book.

They could make their own film.

They could simply decide they do not want to revisit the subject at all.

Meghan Markle’s UK return poses Palace control ‘nightmare,’ expert warns

Sitting opposite Diana’s son may be emotionally significant, but it is not automatically enough to convince people to hand over stories they have kept for decades.

And that is where the project could stall.

Sean says Harry is making a serious effort to “kickstart” the idea, but he also suggests the plan may already be “hitting the buffers” because the people he wants most may not want to come forward.

There is another complication.

Diana did not have one son.

She had two.

Sean argues that reopening both the positive and negative sides of Diana’s life could be painful for Prince William.

According to Sean, William would prefer to mark his mother’s memory quietly and respectfully rather than re-examine old controversies in front of a global audience.

Sean also says, in his opinion, there is virtually no chance William would agree to sit down for Harry’s documentary and share his own memories.

That absence would be impossible to ignore.

A documentary about Diana made by one son, without the participation of the other, would inevitably raise questions about whose version of her legacy is being presented.

That becomes even more sensitive if Harry is trying to include people who were once critical of Diana.

The aim may be balance.

But balance can also reopen wounds.

Sean suggests that Harry understands a purely celebratory documentary may not be commercially strong enough.

A streamer would likely want complexity.

That means uncomfortable stories.

It means contradiction.

It means bringing back material that some members of the family may prefer to leave in the past.

At the same time, Harry appears to be building more infrastructure for media production.

Sean says there are discussions about creating a media room or studio in the Sussexes’ new base, where Meghan could film material and Harry could record speeches or work on projects such as this documentary.

That would make the Diana project part of a broader media strategy rather than a one-off tribute.

The timing is also notable because Earl Spencer, Diana’s brother, is preparing to release his own book about her.

So the 30th anniversary could become a period in which several people close to Diana present their own versions of her life and legacy.

That creates both opportunity and risk for Harry.

He has the strongest possible personal connection to the subject.

But personal connection does not guarantee cooperation from witnesses.

And that may be the irony at the center of this project.

Harry may want to investigate the story like a kind of “Sherlock Holmes,” as Sean jokingly puts it.

But the mystery is not whether people have more to say.

The mystery is whether they are willing to say it to him.

If they are not, the biggest threat to Harry’s Diana documentary may not come from William, the Palace or even public criticism.

It may simply be that the people Harry needs most decide they would rather keep their stories to themselves.
