“HARRY WAS ALWAYS GOING TO RETURN TO BRITAIN” — FORMER ROYAL BUTLER REVEALS A CHILDHOOD DETAIL ABOUT HARRY THAT SURPRISED MANY PEOPLE. Grant Harrold could not hold back and described Harry with two revealing words when talking about his relationship with King Charles. He witnessed a bond between father and son that few outsiders ever truly understood. And those memories may explain why Harry could never completely leave Britain behind, no matter how much Meghan tried to build a life away from it. His return was never a question of if — only when.

Prince Harry’s decision to return to Britain after six years in the United States has been described by many as a surprising royal development. But according to a former royal insider, the move may not have been unexpected at all. Instead, it may represent something deeper: Harry’s desire to reconnect with the father he was once extremely close to.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Are Moving Back to the UK. Prince William and Kate Middleton Are “Concerned.” | Vanity Fair

According to a report from The Independent, former royal butler Grant Harrold believes Harry was always likely to return to the UK because of his strong childhood relationship with King Charles. Harrold, who worked closely with Harry, Prince William, and other members of the Royal Family until 2011, described Harry as a “daddy’s boy” and suggested that his emotional connection with his father remained one of the strongest reasons behind his return.

“Harry was always going to return to the UK to be near his father,” Harrold said.

The former royal staff member explained that when someone close to you faces difficult circumstances, especially involving health and personal challenges, it can change your priorities. He believes Harry may have reached a point where being physically closer to his father became more important than remaining thousands of miles away in America.

Harrold emphasized that while the public often focuses on the relationship between King Charles and Prince William, Harry also shared an unusually close bond with his father during his younger years.

“Everyone goes on about the close bond between the King and William but Harry was always a daddy’s boy,” he said, describing their relationship as “extraordinary.”

This perspective suggests that Harry’s return may not only be about Britain itself. It may also be about repairing a personal relationship that was damaged after he and Meghan Markle stepped away from royal duties in 2020.

For King Charles, Harry’s return could bring a meaningful opportunity. The King may have more chances to spend time with his son and grandchildren, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. However, Harrold also believes Charles will remain cautious.

What Prince Harry, Meghan Markle's U.K. Move Means for Royal Family

One of the reasons for that caution is the possibility that Harry’s return could once again bring media attention and public discussions. Harrold raised concerns about reports of future television projects and questioned whether Harry would first focus on rebuilding trust with his father before making decisions involving public exposure.

While Charles may welcome the opportunity to reconnect, the same cannot necessarily be said about Prince William.

Harrold believes William could react very differently to Harry’s return. He suggested that the Prince of Wales may be deeply unhappy after years of public criticism, including claims made by Harry in interviews and in his memoir Spare, where Harry discussed serious conflicts involving William, Kate, Charles, and Queen Camilla.

“William will be furious,” Harrold said.

According to the former butler, William places enormous importance on trust, and once that trust has been damaged beyond a certain point, rebuilding the relationship becomes extremely difficult.

“William is somebody that when you break trust and you go beyond a certain point, there’s no going back,” Harrold explained.

The biggest difference now is that Harry is no longer living on another continent. Previously, William could maintain distance because Harry was thousands of miles away in the United States. But with Harry returning to Britain, the situation becomes much more personal.

“Before, William would have said ‘he’s 5,000/6,000 miles away and it’s not my problem,’” Harrold said. “But now he’s suddenly back on the doorstep.”

Meanwhile, Meghan Markle may face a completely different challenge. Harrold believes adjusting to life in Britain could be much harder for her because of her previous experience as a working royal.

He suggested Meghan struggled with the intense media attention and public pressure during her time in the UK and believes a permanent move could be difficult.

“I think she will hate it,” Harrold said, while clarifying that visiting Britain and living there permanently are two very different experiences.

He also pointed out Meghan’s close relationship with her mother, Doria Ragland, who remains in the United States. Leaving behind that support system could make the transition even more challenging.

Harrold even suggested that Harry may have reached a point where returning to Britain was no longer negotiable for him. He speculated that Harry might have told Meghan she would have to decide whether to join him or remain in America.

The former butler suggested Harry may have thought: “I need to be with my dad in this part of his life.”

Despite the tension between Harry and William, Harrold does not believe reconciliation is impossible. He said that “time is a healer” and that family relationships can sometimes recover after deep disagreements.

He believes Catherine, Princess of Wales, could play a role in helping reduce tensions because of her diplomatic personality.

“I think Catherine will be concerned by the situation, but she’s a very diplomatic lady,” Harrold said, suggesting that she may try to focus on positive outcomes while supporting William.

Ultimately, Harry’s return appears to represent different things to different members of the Royal Family. For Charles, it may be an opportunity to reconnect with his son. For William, it may reopen wounds that have never fully healed. For Meghan, it may become the biggest test of whether a new life in Britain is truly possible.

The return of Harry and Meghan is not simply a change of location. It is a return to unresolved relationships, unfinished conversations, and a family history that remains complicated.
