For years, speculation surrounding Prince Harry and Meghan Markle has focused on whether their increasingly independent professional lives signal something deeper about their marriage. But the latest claims surrounding the Sussexes suggest that the more important question may not be whether they are separating. It may be whether two people who built a new life together in California now want fundamentally different relationships with Britain.

The reported solution is a new “agreement.” Yet the very need for that compromise reveals how complicated the next stage of their lives could become.
According to a Heatworld report, sources claim Harry increasingly wants to spend more time in the UK as he works to repair his relationship with his family, while Meghan remains committed to the life she has established in Los Angeles.
One insider describes the situation as “very much a make-or-break situation.”
Harry is being pulled back toward Britain
Harry’s relationship with Britain appears to be entering a different phase.
The 41-year-old travelled to the UK last month for the one-year countdown to the 2027 Invictus Games. More significantly, he accepted King Charles’s invitation to Highgrove House on 10 July.

Meghan and their children, seven-year-old Archie and five-year-old Lilibet, joined him.
The Sussexes were not publicly photographed during the visit, although Meghan later shared images from the day with her 4.7 million Instagram followers. Buckingham Palace described the meeting as a “private family occasion” lasting “for an hour or so.”
It reportedly marked the first time in four years that the Sussexes had spent time with Charles and was widely interpreted as a positive development.
Harry is already expected back in Britain in September for the WellChild Awards, while rumours have also suggested Charles invited the Sussexes to Balmoral this month.
Taken together, these developments explain why Harry may be imagining a future involving substantially more time in Britain.
According to Heat’s source, he “dreams of a compromise” that would allow him to return more frequently, “potentially as a part-time working royal again.”
The difficulty is that Meghan apparently does not share that dream.
Meghan has built her home elsewhere
The source claims Harry would like his wife beside him but says there is “no way” Meghan would move back, even part-time, because she believes there remains too much “open hostility” toward her.
Los Angeles, meanwhile, represents more than geography.

Meghan is reportedly constantly attending meetings there and handling much of the couple’s Netflix negotiations. Harry has taken more of a back seat while concentrating on charitable work and rebuilding his relationship with his father.
The source even claims:
“Meghan’s taking more of the responsibility for bringing in the money.”
They still come together for meals and family time, but their schedules increasingly pull them in different directions. They are described as having “very full, independent lives.”
Culturally, Meghan is also said to feel more comfortable in LA after never embracing what the source calls the “stuffiness of England.”
That makes uprooting her California life difficult to imagine.
Their new agreement attempts to preserve both worlds
Rather than forcing either person to completely surrender their preferred future, the couple are reportedly discussing an arrangement under which Harry could navigate his renewed British commitments while Meghan accompanies him when it suits her.
“She’s very independent,” the insider says.
In theory, the arrangement offers both spouses freedom.
Harry could reconnect with Britain without requiring Meghan to effectively reverse the decision that brought their family to California. Meghan could continue her professional life in LA without preventing Harry from rebuilding relationships in Britain.

But according to the source, someone will eventually have to compromise.
That is why the arrangement is described as “make-or-break.”
One missing ring created another story
The tension claims intensified after Meghan attended an LA screening of Cookie Queens, the Girl Scouts documentary on which she serves as executive producer, without her engagement ring.
There is no confirmed evidence explaining why she did not wear it.
However, Heat’s source interprets the decision as deliberate, claiming:
“Meghan’s too media savvy to accidentally step out without her ring.”
The insider suggests it was almost a reminder that Meghan remains the “independent, self-assured, driven woman” Harry fell in love with, adding that if Harry takes her for granted, “it’ll be at his peril.”
Such interpretations should be treated as speculation rather than confirmation from Meghan herself. But they illustrate how closely every sign of independence within the Sussex marriage is scrutinised.
This is hardly new.
A Vanity Fair article last year referenced claims that Meghan’s team had explored a “post-divorce book” deal, something a source close to Meghan denied.
Harry himself mocked persistent divorce rumours in New York in December 2024:
“We’ve apparently divorced maybe 10, 12 times. It’s hard to keep up with, but that’s why you just ignore it.”
The children make compromise much harder
There is, however, one issue that cannot be solved simply by Harry travelling alone: Archie and Lilibet’s education.
A second insider claims this is becoming another source of stress.
Meghan reportedly “won’t budge,” while Harry understands her position but “can’t rule out a British education.”
Harry is said to want his children to develop a meaningful relationship with his side of the family. He reportedly prefers a mixed school and has even explored a day-pupil arrangement.
That possibility received additional attention after singer Joss Stone, Harry’s friend who returned to Devon from Nashville with her family, said last September that Harry had spoken about how “wonderful” British schools were when they attended the WellChild Awards.
Explaining her own decision to return, Stone said she wanted her children surrounded by “family, friends, a strong sense of belonging and, most importantly, in a safe environment.”
This argument may really be about the meaning of home
The most revealing observation comes from Heat’s insider:
“Education is just the symptom – the bigger issue is deciding where home actually is.”
That reframes the entire story.
For Meghan, home appears firmly rooted in California, where she has independence, professional responsibilities and a life she has spent years constructing.
For Harry, California may remain his family home, but Britain increasingly represents something he appears unwilling to leave entirely behind: his father, charitable commitments, the Invictus Games, old connections and potentially part of his children’s identity.
Perhaps their reported agreement can accommodate both realities.
But children eventually need stability. Professional responsibilities require priorities. Family reconciliation demands time. Two homes separated by thousands of miles can work only if both people agree on what each home means.
Harry and Meghan have repeatedly survived predictions that their marriage was ending. The latest claims do not prove otherwise.
Yet if the insiders are correct, their next challenge may be more complicated than another round of divorce rumours.
They do not simply have to decide how much time Harry spends in Britain.
They may have to decide where their family ultimately belongs.
