A RIDICULOUS REASON TO ELIMINATE THEM? – JOLLOF BOWL FALLS, FANS QUESTION THE RESULT The Great Food Truck Race is facing backlash after Jollof Bowl was unexpectedly eliminated in Episode 5, despite previously securing the highest sales position and even earning an additional advantage for the following week. In the Redemption round, Jollof Bowl faced Hele Rolls in the Potato Challenge, judged by Tyler Florence and Arnold Myint. What left many viewers confused was that the judges still praised Jollof Bowl’s dish extensively, yet ultimately eliminated them because they couldn’t taste enough potato in the dish. And that is exactly where the controversy erupted: if the dish tasted great but failed to highlight the required ingredient, was that really enough to eliminate a team that had been performing so well? Or was Jollof Bowl judged too harshly over a single detail — making this the most controversial elimination of the season?

The pressure reached its breaking point at Dollywood as the four remaining food trucks finally learned who had turned the park’s enormous crowds into the most successful business — and who had failed to make enough money to survive.

At Dollywood’s Splash Country, Tyler Florence gathered the teams and revealed the day’s final sales figures. After hours of frantic service, aggressive pricing and costly mistakes, the numbers determined which two teams would be forced into a sudden-death Redemption Battle.

The stakes were brutal: one final cooking challenge would decide which team stayed in the competition and which team would leave Dollywood in fourth place.

The losing teams were given one deceptively simple ingredient:

🥔 POTATOES.

But there was a catch. They had to transform the humble potato into something impressive enough to win over Tyler Florence and guest chef Arnold Myint.

For the struggling teams, there was nowhere left to hide. This was no longer about sales volume or clever pricing. It was about creativity, adaptability and the ability to respond when the competition suddenly moved outside a team’s comfort zone.

And that proved disastrous for Jollof Bowl.

Jollof Bowl's journey to Food Network started with a viral video - The Banner

Throughout the main challenge, Jollof Bowl had relied heavily on its aggressive sales strategy and the bold West African flavors that defined its menu. But the Potato Challenge demanded something different.

The team needed to demonstrate that it could take an unfamiliar ingredient and push it beyond the flavors and techniques it already knew.

Instead, the judges felt that Jollof Bowl remained too close to its established culinary identity.

The potato was incorporated into a dish, but the transformation wasn’t enough to convince Tyler Florence and Arnold Myint that the team had truly adapted to the challenge.

The judges ultimately decided that another team had done more with the ingredient.

And then came the announcement nobody on Jollof Bowl wanted to hear.

JOLLOF BOWL WAS ELIMINATED.

After surviving the chaos of Dollywood’s massive crowds and battling through an intense sales race, their journey ended in the Redemption Battle.

The team officially finished the competition in 4th place.

Their elimination was particularly painful because their aggressive sales strategy had initially made them look like one of the teams capable of dominating the park. But the Potato Challenge exposed a different weakness: the ability to step outside a familiar culinary comfort zone when the competition demanded it.

For the remaining food trucks, the message was unmistakable.

Making money could keep you safe for one challenge — but when you’re pushed into a Redemption Battle, creativity can matter more than sales.

Jollof Bowl came to Dollywood ready to fight for every customer.
