Mother who gave birth to twins inside her partner’s BMW after her waters broke a week early says it was ‘better than being in hospital’
For most expectant mothers, giving birth in the car would be truly traumatic.
But Chloe Weston would do it all over again – and says it was better than being in hospital.
The 28-year-old was caught off guard when her waters broke a week before her scheduled C-section and she gave birth to twins in the front seat of her partner’s BMW. Ms Weston and her partner, Adrian Bradbury, were on the way to Queen’s Hospital Burton, Staffordshire, but they hit traffic.
Mr Bradbury, 33, pulled over and 30 minutes after contractions started, Ms Weston gave birth to her boys, Koah and Kyro, just one minute apart.
The newborns were wrapped in blankets donated by a stranger and taken to hospital where they stayed for a week.
The twins, now five months old, are thriving – and Ms Weston says it was her ‘easiest birth’. She also has Jacob, six, and Leo, two.
She added: ‘I gave birth to one twin by the time we had pulled over, but he fell in the footwell.
‘It only took about 30 minutes to give birth from when my contractions started.

‘I caught them myself and held them to my chest.
‘I was in so much shock. But it was a really easy birth, I was listening to my own body. It was a better experience compared to being in a hospital environment.’
At an appointment on November 14 last year she was told her twins were breech and transverse – feet first and positioned sideways – so she opted for a scheduled C-section a week later. But her waters broke at 3.30pm that day. Ms Weston and Mr Bradbury jumped in the car, but they got stuck in traffic on the A38, near Willington.
With no choice but to push, MsΒ Weston gave birth to Koah, weighing 6lb 4oz, as Mr Bradbury, inset, pulled the car over. He got out and got help from police officers nearby – but by the time he returned, Kyro had arrived, weighing 5lb 2oz.
As they waited for an ambulance, a local, who they have since tracked down on Facebook to thank, gave the couple pink blankets to keep their babies warm.
They were in hospital for a week, and Kyro spent two days in the intensive care unit because of low blood sugar.
Ms Weston said: ‘I was absolutely dreading it, but the experienceΒ was completely different with the twins, and it was pretty much the easiest. If I was to have another child, I’d happily be in the car all over again.’
