Good Morning Britain viewers were treated to an unexpected moment of comedy during Thursday’s live broadcast when veteran presenter Kate Garraway accidentally became the centre of attention while trying to quietly return to the studio. What was supposed to be a quick and unnoticed break turned into one of the most amusing moments of the programme, leaving both the presenters and guests struggling to contain their laughter.

Kate, 59, was hosting the ITV morning show alongside Adil Ray when the hilarious incident unfolded. During an advertising break, the presenter decided to briefly step away from the studio to use the bathroom. However, her timing proved to be less than perfect, as she found herself rushing to get back to the sofa while Adil was already in the middle of a live interview with Strictly Come Dancing star Amy Dowden and her dance partner Carlos Gu.

The situation quickly became impossible for Kate to avoid. While Amy and Carlos were discussing their experience on the upcoming series of Celebrity Hunted, a pre-recorded package briefly appeared on screen. When the programme returned to the live interview, Amy suddenly paused mid-conversation after hearing movement nearby. The interruption immediately caught everyone’s attention, and the camera revealed Kate attempting to quietly slide back into her seat.

Amy reacted with surprise and warmly greeted her, saying, “Oh, good morning!” as Kate appeared beside her co-host. Realising that her attempt to return unnoticed had failed, Kate looked embarrassed but could not stop herself from laughing.

Apologising to everyone in the studio, Kate admitted that she had taken longer than expected during her break. With a smile, she explained, “I’m so sorry… I took a little bit too long in the shower, in the loo,” before breaking into a fit of laughter. Her reaction made the moment even funnier, as the usually composed presenter struggled to regain her composure.

Adil Ray joined in with the joke, pretending to be frustrated by the unexpected delay. Rolling his eyes in a playful manner, he teased Kate by referencing the ongoing hot weather and water shortages affecting parts of the UK. He joked that she had clearly ignored the advice about taking shorter showers, adding that everything was fine now that she had finally returned.

The light-hearted exchange came as much of England continued to experience the effects of a severe heatwave. Several areas had been officially placed under drought conditions, with some regions going more than a month without significant rainfall. Temperatures had once again climbed into the mid-30s Celsius, creating difficult conditions across many parts of the country.

Among the areas affected were London and Hertfordshire, where the Good Morning Britain studios are located, as well as regions including the Thames Valley, East Anglia, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, Devon and Cornwall, the West Midlands, and Wessex. The unusual weather conditions provided the perfect opportunity for Adil’s playful comment about Kate’s extended bathroom break.

After the amusing interruption, the programme returned to the original interview with Amy Dowden and Carlos Gu, who were appearing to discuss their participation in Celebrity Hunted. The Channel 4 programme challenges celebrities to go on the run for 21 days while attempting to avoid capture by a team of professional hunters made up of former police officers, intelligence experts and tracking specialists.

Amy revealed that the experience was extremely demanding, explaining that the pressure of constantly trying to avoid detection made the challenge incredibly intense. She said that the only time contestants really had a chance to separate from each other was when they went to the bathroom. According to Amy, she and Carlos repeatedly agreed that the experience was even harder than taking part in Strictly Come Dancing.

Carlos also agreed with her assessment, saying the challenge was “100 percent harder than dancing.” The pair explained that although they had a camera crew following them, they were still responsible for making their own decisions and trying to stay ahead of the hunters.

Amy revealed that one mistake nearly caused problems for them during the competition. Although they had created a plan to help them during their escape, Carlos accidentally left the information stored on his phone instead of deleting it. As a result, the hunters were able to discover clues about their movements.

Despite the difficulties, Amy said she had no regrets about taking part in the programme. She explained that the series was connected to the Stand Up To Cancer fundraising campaign, which holds special significance for her after her own battle with breast cancer. The cause, she said, was something very close to her heart.

The conversation later moved on to the upcoming series of Strictly Come Dancing, which will feature changes behind the scenes with new presenters Emma Willis, Josh Widdicombe and Johannes Radebe taking over from long-time hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman.

However, Amy reassured fans that the heart of the popular dance competition would remain unchanged. She explained that while introducing new presenters was a major moment, the format and competitive spirit that viewers love would continue. Amy said she has grown up watching Strictly and feels incredibly proud to be part of the show’s history.

She added that the excitement surrounding the competition remains the same, with viewers and professionals continuing to focus on the performances, improvements, and which contestants may face elimination each week. For Amy, that competitive atmosphere is what makes Strictly so special.
