Just days after quietly returning to California from a summer trip to Europe, Meghan Markle stepped back into the public eye with a solo appearance that quickly became about more than the film she was promoting.

The Duchess of Sussex attended a special screening of Cookie Queens in Los Angeles, marking her first public engagement in several weeks. While the evening celebrated a documentary executive-produced by Meghan and Prince Harry through Archewell Productions, it was Meghan’s heartfelt reflections during a live question-and-answer session that captured the audience’s attention.
Instead of focusing solely on the documentary, Meghan spoke candidly about overcoming difficult moments in life and revealed the advice Prince Harry has given her whenever life feels overwhelming.

The event celebrated Cookie Queens, a documentary following four young girls as they compete to become top-selling “Cookie Queens” in an industry valued at approximately $800 million, where childhood ambitions collide with the realities of business.
Harry and Meghan are among the film’s 13 executive producers, supporting the project through their production company, Archewell Productions.
During the screening, Meghan posed for photographs with the documentary’s cast and creative team before joining director Alysa Nahmias on stage for a discussion about the film.

As the conversation turned toward resilience and motivation, Meghan was asked how she keeps moving forward during life’s toughest moments.
Her answer immediately shifted the spotlight to Prince Harry.
She began by explaining that the advice she relies on today came from a conversation with her husband years ago.
“I think so much of it, funny enough, I was thinking about something my husband told me ages ago, because we all go through experiences and life is full of surprises.”
Meghan then revealed that Harry’s perspective was shaped by his military career.

She reminded the audience that he had spent a decade serving as a helicopter pilot in the British Army before leaving military service.
Drawing from those experiences, Harry would often encourage her with words she says have stayed with her ever since.
“But you know, he was a helicopter pilot in the British Army for 10 years. And sometimes on really hard days, he said, ‘Hey, but my love, you know, even if there’s a storm happening above the storm, the sun’s always shining.'”
For Meghan, that message became far more than a comforting phrase.
She explained that Harry’s advice encourages her to step back from immediate problems and look at the bigger picture instead of becoming consumed by the challenges directly in front of her.
According to the Duchess, that perspective helps transform moments that initially seem impossible to overcome.
She described Harry’s outlook by saying it:
“only comes when you think about zooming out a little.”
Meghan went on to explain that life’s biggest obstacles often appear much smaller when viewed over a longer period of time.
She believes people often underestimate their own ability to survive setbacks and eventually accomplish goals that once seemed unattainable.
Reflecting on that mindset, she said:
“So I think when you really zoom out and think, ‘My gosh, how many things have we gone through that have felt hard?’ And then you still get through them.”
She continued by encouraging people not to lose confidence when facing disappointment.
“Or how many goals do you think you’re not gonna hit? And then you hit them and you supersede them.”
Her comments offered one of the most personal insights into the couple’s relationship in recent months, with Harry’s encouragement presented not as a royal anecdote but as a lesson she continues to carry into everyday life.
The appearance also marked Meghan’s first public event since she and Harry returned from Europe.
According to reports, the couple recently spent time in Portugal before Harry traveled to Britain for five days.
During that visit, Meghan reportedly remained largely out of the public eye while making a low-profile trip to Gloucestershire with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
The visit reportedly included a private meeting with King Charles III and Queen Camilla at Highgrove House, away from public attention.
Although Meghan did not address that trip during the screening, her return to public life naturally attracted renewed interest because it followed weeks of speculation surrounding the Sussex family’s travel plans and relationship with the Royal Family.
The focus of the evening, however, remained firmly on Cookie Queens.
The documentary was directed by Alysa Nahmias, who also served as producer alongside Michael Dweck, Gregory Kershaw and Jennifer Sims.
Harry and Meghan joined a wider group of executive producers supporting the project, reflecting the couple’s continuing commitment to documentary storytelling through Archewell Productions.
Yet despite celebrating a new film, Meghan ultimately left audiences talking about something much more personal.
Rather than discussing Hollywood, future projects or royal headlines, she chose to share the words that continue to guide her whenever life becomes difficult.
For Meghan, the image Harry once described—a storm raging below while the sun continues shining above it—remains a reminder that even the hardest seasons eventually pass, provided people are willing to step back, keep perspective and continue moving forward.
