HELL O UK — HARRY AND MEGHAN ARE FINALLY BACK. Prince Harry has finally touched down on British soil alongside his family, flying from Los Angeles’ Van Nuys Airport to Birmingham aboard a luxury Bombardier Global Express XRS jet. Upon arrival, he immediately stepped into a high-end luxury vehicle, flanked by a heavy security detail. BUT it’s the mystery surrounding the exact identity of his security squad that’s driving the public crazy. Harry had reportedly reached out to the Home Office in advance to demand high-level protection — and here is exactly what he got…

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been seen leaving Birmingham Airport following their arrival in Britain with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, marking the beginning of what is expected to be an extended period in the UK more than six years after the Sussexes stepped away from royal life.

Prince Harry and Meghan are believed to have been in the back of this £80,000 Mercedes-Benz V220d, which left Birmingham Airport after they landed on a private aircraft yesterdayThe Duke and Duchess of Sussex arrived from California on Wednesday, August 26, aboard a privately chartered long-range jet before being driven away from the airport with their children and a privately arranged security team.

New photographs from Birmingham showed a Mercedes-Benz people carrier leaving the airport shortly after the family’s aircraft touched down. Although Harry and Meghan themselves were not clearly visible through the vehicle’s windows, they were understood to have been travelling in the rear of the car with seven-year-old Archie and five-year-old Lilibet.

The airport departure offered the first glimpse of the arrangements surrounding the family’s closely watched return to Britain — from their choice of airport and private transportation to the continuing controversy over Harry’s security.

Private jet arrives from California

Harry, Meghan and their children are understood to have flown from Van Nuys Airport in Los Angeles, an airport frequently used by private and business aircraft.

Reports identified their aircraft as a Bombardier Global Express XRS, a long-range business jet designed for intercontinental travel.

The flight reached Birmingham shortly before midday. After landing, the aircraft taxied to an area operated by Signature Aviation, which provides handling and other services for private aircraft.

Rather than passing through the airport in the same way as passengers on a scheduled commercial service, the Sussex family was met by vehicles that had been positioned near the private aviation area.

According to an eyewitness account reported in connection with the arrival, three vehicles had reached Birmingham Airport earlier that morning. They later moved towards the airfield and waited for the private jet before pulling up close to the aircraft once ground staff had completed the initial arrival procedures.

Approximately 20 minutes after the aircraft arrived, the vehicles began leaving the airport.

Earlier, three cars waited at Birmingham Airport from about 10am for Harry's plane to arrive

One of them was reported to be a Mercedes-Benz V220d worth approximately £80,000. Harry and Meghan were believed to have been inside with their children.

Harry’s security adviser travels with the family

Sitting in the front of the Mercedes was reportedly David Langdown, a longtime security adviser to Prince Harry.

Langdown has known the duke for many years and is understood to have helped arrange a British private protection team for Harry, Meghan and their children as the family establishes itself in the UK.

The presence of private security is significant because the Sussexes have returned without the automatic taxpayer-funded police protection Harry once received as a senior working member of the Royal Family.

Harry and Meghan ceased carrying out official royal duties in 2020, and Harry subsequently spent years challenging changes to his security arrangements in Britain.

Even after the family’s latest return, ITV reported that Harry had not been granted an enhanced package of state-funded protection and had instead been given access to a police liaison contact. A former royal protection officer told the broadcaster that he believed the existing arrangement left the family exposed to unnecessary risk.

The issue is particularly sensitive because Harry has repeatedly argued that private security cannot provide all the capabilities available to British police.

Security concerns had previously affected whether Meghan and their children would accompany him on trips to Britain.

Why Birmingham?

The decision to fly into Birmingham rather than one of the major London airports immediately generated speculation about where the family will be based.

Harry and Meghan are expected to live in a private, non-royal residence outside London, but the exact location has deliberately not been made public.

The Cotswolds has repeatedly been mentioned as one possible location, particularly because Birmingham Airport offers convenient access to large parts of central and western England.

However, neither the Sussexes nor their representatives have publicly confirmed a precise address, and the location of their new home is expected to remain private for security reasons.

Their return should also not necessarily be interpreted as a permanent abandonment of California.

The couple are expected to retain their home in Montecito, where they have lived since 2020, and Meghan is expected to continue overseeing her American business interests while spending significant periods in Britain.

Reports have described the UK move as an “extended stay,” which could potentially last for months rather than representing a complete and permanent relocation.

Archie and Lilibet preparing for school in Britain

One of the biggest changes concerns the couple’s two children.

Prince Archie, seven, and Princess Lilibet, five, have been enrolled at school in Britain and are due to begin the new academic year in September.

Details of the school have not been released, an understandable precaution given the ages of the children and the security concerns surrounding the family.

The move means Archie and Lilibet will spend substantially more time in their father’s home country after growing up predominantly in California.

Archie was born in London in May 2019, while Lilibet was born in California in June 2021.

The children’s move to a British school is consequently one of the clearest indications that Harry and Meghan intend their latest stay to be more substantial than the short visits they have made during the years since leaving royal duties.

Reuters reported that the family intends to remain in Britain for an extended period while still maintaining its status outside the working monarchy.

No return to life as working royals

Despite their physical return to Britain, Harry and Meghan are not returning as working members of the Royal Family.

There are no plans for them to resume official duties on behalf of King Charles, and they will not be moving into an official royal residence.

That distinction is important.

When Harry and Meghan announced their intention to step back in January 2020, they initially hoped to develop a new arrangement that would allow them to retain some royal responsibilities while also becoming financially independent.

Following negotiations with Queen Elizabeth II, King Charles — then the Prince of Wales — and Prince William, the eventual settlement required Harry and Meghan to stop carrying out official duties as senior working royals.

They completed their final engagements in March 2020 and subsequently established their home in California.

Their latest move does not reverse that agreement.

The couple can continue with their charitable, commercial and media activities while living in Britain, but any appearance at major royal occasions would be as family members or invited guests rather than representatives of the monarch.

A return that follows an important family reunion

The Sussexes’ arrival comes only weeks after another significant family visit to Britain.

In July, Harry and Meghan travelled to the UK with Archie and Lilibet and were understood to have met King Charles at Highgrove.

It was an especially important reunion because the King had not seen his grandchildren in person for approximately four years.

The Sussex family also spent time at Althorp, the Northamptonshire estate belonging to Harry’s uncle Charles Spencer.

Althorp has deep personal importance for the duke. It was the childhood home of his mother, Diana, Princess of Wales, and Diana is buried on an island in a lake on the estate.

Meghan later shared family photographs from the summer trip, including images involving Archie and Lilibet.

The July visit therefore represented an unusually extensive period of family contact before the decision to establish a new UK base became public.

Reports nevertheless indicated that Harry and Meghan had not discussed their eventual relocation plans with the King during their Highgrove reunion. Charles was said to have been informed about the decision shortly before news of the move emerged publicly.

Relationship with King improves, but William tensions remain

Harry’s relationship with his father appears to have improved compared with the particularly strained period following the Sussexes’ departure and the publication of Harry’s memoir Spare.

Having Archie and Lilibet living much closer to their grandfather could create more opportunities for private family contact.

The situation with Prince William, however, remains considerably more complicated.

Reuters reported that while relations between Harry and his father have improved, the duke remains estranged from his elder brother.

There has been no announcement suggesting that Harry’s relocation will bring an immediate reconciliation with the Prince of Wales.

The Sussexes’ return therefore creates an unusual situation: Harry and his family will once again be living in the same country as senior members of the monarchy while remaining institutionally separate from royal life.

Harry expected to maintain major UK commitments

Although Harry will not undertake engagements for the Crown, Britain remains important to several of his personal charitable projects.

One of the biggest is the Invictus Games, the international sporting competition for wounded, injured and sick service personnel and veterans that Harry founded in 2014.

Birmingham is due to host the Invictus Games in 2027, giving the duke a particularly strong reason to spend more time in the Midlands over the coming year.

Harry was already in Birmingham in July 2026 for events connected with the one-year countdown to the Games.

He is also expected to continue working with charities and organizations with which he retained personal relationships after leaving official royal service.

Those appearances will be made in his private capacity rather than as engagements on behalf of the monarchy.

Meghan expected to continue her businesses

Meghan, meanwhile, is expected to maintain her commercial activities.

Her lifestyle company As Ever remains centered on the United States, meaning she is likely to continue travelling between Britain and California even as the family spends more time in the UK.

There has also been renewed speculation about a possible acting comeback for the former Suits star, although reports concerning individual projects have been contradictory and no major new role connected with her UK return has been formally confirmed.

That makes the Sussexes’ new arrangement markedly different from traditional royal life.

They will be geographically closer to the Royal Family while continuing to finance themselves and pursue independent careers.

Even the family dogs have made the journey

One small detail further underlined the seriousness of the move.

CNN reported that a Sussex spokesperson confirmed the family’s dogs had travelled to Britain with them. Their chickens, which have become familiar to viewers through glimpses of the Sussexes’ Montecito home life, remained behind in California and were being cared for there.

Bringing their pets, enrolling the children in school and establishing a residence outside London collectively suggest something far more substantial than one of Harry’s brief previous visits.

A new chapter — but on different terms

The sight of the Sussex convoy pulling away from Birmingham Airport therefore represented more than another royal arrival.

Six years after Harry and Meghan dramatically left Britain to establish an independent life in North America, they are once again preparing to make the UK a significant part of their family’s everyday life.

But almost everything about their circumstances has changed.

They have no official palace residence, no role as working royals and no automatic package of the police protection that once accompanied Harry everywhere in Britain. Their children are now school age, Meghan has built businesses in California, and Harry has spent years publicly discussing his difficult relationship with the institution into which he was born.

At the same time, recent contact with King Charles and the decision to educate Archie and Lilibet in Britain could create opportunities for family relationships that were difficult to maintain from California.

For now, however, the Sussexes appear determined to conduct the transition quietly.

Their Mercedes left Birmingham Airport roughly 20 minutes after the private jet arrived, disappearing from public view as the convoy headed towards an undisclosed destination.

It was a low-key exit for a return carrying enormous significance: Harry, Meghan, Archie and Lilibet are back in Britain — not as a restored royal household, but as a family attempting to build a new version of life in the country they left behind six years ago
