SHOCKING: FOOD NETWORK’S 2 “HALLOWEEN ICONS” ARE OFFICIALLY RETURNING — BUT ONE DEPARTURE HAS FANS HEARTBROKEN! Halloween Wars and Halloween Baking Championship are officially returning this fall, bringing another season that Food Network has teased as more intense and unpredictable than ever before. Terrifying cakes, spooky challenges and unexpected showdowns are once again set to take over the network, giving Halloween fans plenty to look forward to. But amid all the excitement, one major absence is leaving viewers deeply disappointed. A chef who had been closely associated with Food Network’s Halloween programming for years is suddenly no longer appearing in the same role, bringing an era that many fans never expected to end to a surprising close.

Food Network is bringing back two of its biggest Halloween franchises this fall, but the announcement comes with a surprising change that has fans talking.

Halloween Wars and Halloween Baking Championship are officially returning in September 2026, promising another season packed with terrifying creations, high-pressure challenges and some of the network’s most elaborate Halloween-themed competitions yet. Food Network has confirmed that Halloween Wars Season 16 will premiere September 13, followed by Halloween Baking Championship Season 12 on September 14.

But while the return of both shows is exciting news for Halloween fans, viewers immediately noticed that the new seasons also mark a significant shift in the familiar lineup.

‘HALLOWEEN WARS’ RETURNS WITH A ‘BACK FROM THE DEAD’ TWIST

Halloween Wars is returning with an appropriately dramatic theme: “Back from the Dead.”

The Season 16 premiere will be a two-hour event featuring returning all-star pumpkin carvers, cake artists and sugar masters. Seven teams will battle through increasingly difficult challenges, with the losing teams facing a brutal “Do or Die” showdown.

Jonathan Bennett is back as host, while Shinmin Li and Andrew Fuller will serve as judges.

The stakes are also higher, with the winning team taking home $30,000.

‘HALLOWEEN BAKING CHAMPIONSHIP’ GETS A CREEPY NEW SETTING

One night later, Halloween Baking Championship returns for Season 12 with 10 bakers competing for the championship and a $25,000 grand prize.

This season transports the competitors into the Museum of Unnatural History, where frightening exhibits inspire each week’s desserts. The setting includes creepy collections such as possessed pests, demon masks and a vault of bones.

John Henson remains at the center of the competition as host, while Stephanie Boswell, Aarti Sequeira and Zac Young make up the judging panel.

The premiere will challenge contestants to create desserts inspired by their “Best Halloween Ever”, before the weakest bakers face a “Bake for Your Life” challenge.

BUT ONE FAMILIAR FACE IS MISSING

That’s where the excitement turns bittersweet.

Fans who have followed Food Network’s Halloween programming for years may notice that the judging and hosting lineups have changed. In particular, the new Halloween Baking Championship season does not feature the same panel viewers saw in previous seasons.

Food Network: 'Halloween Baking Championship'/'Halloween Wars'

Food Network’s official announcement confirms the Season 12 lineup of Henson, Boswell, Sequeira and Young, meaning the franchise is entering a new era rather than simply repeating last year’s formula.

That change is likely to hit longtime viewers hardest because the Halloween competitions have built their identity around familiar hosts, judges and recurring personalities as much as the outrageous cakes themselves.

Still, Food Network is clearly betting that bigger challenges and new creative settings can keep the franchises fresh.

And with Halloween Wars promising “Back from the Dead” and Halloween Baking Championship turning a museum of unnatural horrors into a baking battlefield, the network isn’t playing it safe.

Two of Food Network’s biggest Halloween icons are officially back — but with new faces, new challenges and a noticeably different feel, this year’s spooky season could mark the beginning of a very different era for both shows.
