‘INSANE’: YouTuber Chased, Beaten, and Robbed of Phone While Reviewing Glasgow’s ‘Roughest’ Pub After Bouncer’s Chilling Warning

A TRAVEL vlogger has revealed his “horrific ordeal” after being allegedly assaulted and robbed while filming a tour of Glasgow’s most notorious drinking dens.

Danny, the man behind the popular YouTube channel Honest Places, claims he was hunted down by a gang of four men, sucker-punched, and left with a chipped tooth after he ignored a stern warning from locals outside a pub with a bloody history.

The influencer, known for his “no-filter” reviews of gritty locales, was in the midst of a tour of North Glasgow when he arrived at the infamous Bells Bar. But what was meant to be a viral video quickly turned into a fight for survival as the vlogger found himself targeted for his camera gear.

A Drunken Start to a Dangerous Night

The video, which has already racked up over 200,000 views, begins with Danny downing half a bottle of Buckfast—the infamous caffeinated fortified wine often dubbed “wreck the hoose juice”—before venturing into the heart of Glasgow’s schemes.

His initial stops seemed to suggest the city’s “rough” reputation might be exaggerated. At the Garngad Bar in Royston, he was met with warm hospitality, even sharing a game of pool with two friendly locals. He moved on to The Budgie on Blochairn Road and the Morven Bar in Springburn, noting that while the atmosphere was “rough around the edges,” the locals were welcoming.

However, the mood shifted instantly when he set sights on Bells Bar—a venue already synonymous with extreme violence.

‘You Don’t Come In Here With Cameras’

As Danny approached the entrance, he was intercepted by three men loitering outside. The tension is palpable in the footage as one man barks a chilling directive:

“You don’t come in here with cameras.”

Despite the clear warning, Danny continued to film, leading to an immediate escalation. One man allegedly lunged for his camera, demanding he switch it off. The situation turned “insane” when a member of the group reportedly hoisted a heavy chair over his head, appearing ready to hurl it at the YouTuber before being restrained by a friend.

Sensing the mounting danger, Danny asked if he could simply visit the pub next door, only to be ordered to clear out of the area entirely.

The Ambush

The vlogger’s relief at escaping the initial confrontation was short-lived. Appearing back on screen shortly after, a visibly shaken Danny recounted a terrifying pursuit.

“Four guys ran after me and stole my phone and glasses,” he told his viewers. “They sucker-punched me. I have a chipped tooth now. They wanted the camera footage.”

In a bizarre twist, Danny claims he later returned to the pub to ask if anyone recognized his attackers. Miraculously, someone in the bar reportedly made a phone call, and his stolen belongings were returned to him.

A Dark History of Violence

The incident at Bells Bar comes as little surprise to those familiar with the pub’s recent history. Last year, the establishment made national headlines following a blood-soaked machete attack that left a 39-year-old man with life-altering injuries.

Locals at other Glasgow pubs even invited him for a game of pool

Security footage from that incident, which occurred during a karaoke night, showed a suspect calmly walking up to a table and producing a foot-long blade. The victim was hacked at repeatedly, with blood splattering against the walls, while other patrons—seemingly desensitized to the carnage—continued singing John Denver’s ‘Take Me Home, Country Roads.’

Police Scotland confirmed this week that investigations into that machete assault remain active.

‘Situational Awareness is a Superpower’

While many viewers expressed shock at the violence, others were quick to criticize the YouTuber for his perceived “naivety” in bringing a selfie stick and high-end tech into one of the UK’s most volatile environments.

One local commented:

“I am 42 and lived in Glasgow my whole life. Situational awareness is a Glaswegian’s superpower. You basically just walked directly into trouble, then got upset when it happened.”

Another added: “Someone walked into Bell’s bar with a machete and hacked a guy to bits just a couple of months ago. My mate was working behind the bar and he quit after that. Madness attempting to go in there with a camera in full view.”

Despite the chipped tooth and the terrifying chase, Danny has continued to post his “Honest” reviews, though he may think twice before pointing his lens at a Glasgow pub bouncer ever again.
