OH HARRY, HAVEN’T YOU PAID YOUR BILLS YET? — HARRY AND MEGHAN USED A PRIVATE JET COSTING MORE THAN $100,000 TO KICK OFF THEIR NEW LIFE IN BRITAIN. The couple reportedly returned to the UK in the most extravagant way possible, despite no longer receiving the privileges that once came with royal life. The luxurious aircraft had enough beds, bathrooms and luggage space to accommodate the entire Sussex family. But the reason they were willing to spend such a huge amount of money while reportedly facing a string of financial pressures following failed projects may not be that difficult to understand — especially after a source revealed that what they brought back to Britain was far more than just luggage.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s return to Britain has already produced one eye-catching number: roughly $120,000 for a ten-hour private jet flight from Los Angeles to Birmingham. But the more revealing story may not be the cost of the journey. It is what the couple brought with them, where they are planning to live, and why this return appears increasingly different from a temporary visit.

According to Page Six, Harry and Meghan chartered a private aircraft through Planet 9, a global private aviation company, for approximately $12,000 per hour. With the flight lasting around ten hours, the estimated cost reached six figures.

Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, and Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, walk hand-in-hand while visiting the Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne, Australia.

The aircraft itself was a Bombardier Global Express XRS, refurbished in 2023. It offers two bathrooms, seating for up to 13 passengers, five beds capable of sleeping six people, and enough storage for roughly 12 to 15 medium-sized suitcases.

Those details reinforce the luxurious nature of the trip.

But one source told Page Six that Harry and Meghan had a practical reason for choosing the private option: they wanted to bring their two dogs with them.

The family reportedly traveled with Pula, a black Labrador retriever, and Mia, a beagle.

Their chickens, however, remained behind at the family’s Montecito property. The chicken coop known as Archie’s Chick Inn, named after their seven-year-old son, had previously appeared on Meghan’s Netflix series With Love, Meghan.

That small detail may actually reveal more about the Sussexes’ plans than the price of the jet.

Taking children abroad for several weeks is one thing. Bringing pets, preparing new schooling arrangements and searching for a home suggests something far more structured.

Harry and Meghan shocked observers when they announced they would return to the UK for an “extended period”, six years after stepping away from royal duties and relocating to California.

Their return does not mean they are abandoning the life they built in the United States.

The couple are expected to keep their Montecito home, continue their business enterprises and live in a “non-royal residence” while in Britain. They are also not returning as working royals.

That makes this move fundamentally different from their life before 2020.

Back then, Harry and Meghan’s position was still defined by their roles inside the monarchy. Now, they appear to be trying to build a British family base while remaining institutionally independent from the Royal Family.

Workers stand by a fence at Birmingham Airport, with a private jet believed to have transported Prince Harry and Meghan visible in the background.

Their children may be central to that arrangement.

Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5, are expected to begin school in England. That gives the family’s return a level of permanence that a series of occasional visits would not have.

A school schedule creates routine. A home creates a base. Bringing the dogs creates continuity.

Together, those details suggest Harry and Meghan are not simply visiting Britain — they are attempting to rebuild part of their domestic life there.

The Palace was also reportedly informed before the public announcement.

A source said King Charles knew the Duke and Duchess of Sussex would be returning several days before the news became public.

More significantly, one insider claimed: “I know that Charles is the reason they are moving back.”

That statement introduces a much more personal explanation for the Sussexes’ decision.

King Charles, who announced his cancer diagnosis in February 2024, reportedly “looks forward” to spending time with Harry and Meghan.

If Charles is indeed a major reason for the move, then the family’s return is not simply about property, schooling or lifestyle. It could also be about creating physical proximity during a period when time with the King has taken on greater importance.

Yet that potential closeness to Charles exists alongside continued distance from Prince William.

Harry and Meghan remain estranged from William and Kate Middleton.

The tensions are well documented. In the couple’s 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey, Meghan said members of the Royal Family had expressed concerns about Archie’s skin color before his birth.

William later responded that the royals were “very much not a racist family.”

Queen Elizabeth II said the whole family was “saddened” by the allegations and that issues raised, particularly those involving race, were concerning.

Harry’s 2023 memoir Spare deepened the rupture further when he accused William of physically attacking him, among other claims.

That means Harry is returning geographically closer to his family without necessarily being emotionally closer to all of them.

The couple’s reported house hunting in the Cotswolds makes that tension even more interesting.

The area is close to Highgrove House, where Charles and Camilla spend time.

Royal commentator Tom Sykes also noted the location carries personal meaning for Harry.

“Obviously, that’s where he grew up, living with his father and brother there, and has happy memories,” Sykes said.

That makes the Cotswolds more than a fashionable place to buy property.

For Harry, it potentially connects the present to a part of his childhood that predates the conflicts that later fractured the family.

The paradox is difficult to ignore.

He may be moving closer to Charles, closer to childhood memories and closer to the country he once left — while still remaining estranged from William.

Seen that way, the private jet is almost secondary.

Yes, the estimated six-figure cost is dramatic. But the flight represents something more consequential: Harry and Meghan were not arriving with just luggage.

They brought their children, their dogs and the beginnings of a new domestic arrangement.

The bigger story is not how much it cost them to return.

It is how seriously they now appear to be preparing to stay.
