COP CLASH Moment cops point taser & repeatedly swing batons at group of girls in street brawl – as police probe ‘shocking’ footage

THIS is the shocking moment cops point a taser and brandish batons at a gaggle of teenage girls as a pavement clash gets out of hand.

Footage shows officers taking swipes at the teens in dramatic street brawl scenes – with girls thrown to the ground.

The force said the video “appears nothing short of shocking”, showing a group of girls in an altercation with police officers on the street in Rotherham, South Yorkshire.

One of the cops orders the rowdy girls to disperse, accusing them of “breaching the peace”.

Amid shouts, some of the girls begin to push the high-vis cop, who appears to shove them back.

More officers intervene and other girls get involved as the tussle escalates, with the original cop pulling out his baton.

One of the girls falls to the ground in the melee, with another cop appearing to punch one of the girls he was grappling with.

Boys can be heard shouting behind the camera, and bottles are thrown into the chaos.

Another officer appears brandishing a taser as the scene descends into an all-out brawl.

The dramatic scenes took place next to a police car with emergency lights flashing red and blue on what appears to be a residential street.

It is thought the incident occurred on Saturday evening.

Clips were posted to Facebook by a woman who said she was the mum of one of the girls involved.

She claimed the large group of teenagers were on a “celebration leaving party” .

The mother said she was astonished by how the officers handled the incident.

“I can’t believe how the police handled the situation last night.

“Surely trained professionals are expected to adapt their approach depending on a person’s age, vulnerability, gender, disability, or whether they’re sober or intoxicated,” she wrote.

She further alleged that the police response had caused “fear and distress” to the teens, which “[escalated] the situation”.

Calling for a public explanation for police actions that night, she added: “Children should be safeguarded, not traumatised.”

South Yorkshire Police released a statement calling the incident “shocking”, adding it is probing what led to the scenes in the clips.

It said: “The short clip on social media of the police response to an incident in Rotherham over the weekend appears nothing short of shocking.

“Our PSD are reviewing this and all available footage, including Body Worn Video, of the full response to the 999 call to understand what happened before, during, and after what is publicly available.

“Their assessment will inform our next steps. At South Yorkshire Police, we want our officers to be professional and their actions to be lawful, proportionate, and fair.”
